Spot Light: Grand Hustle’s Rashad Morgan Takes Detroit National

June 17th, 2010 by atrybula

Detroit-based crooner, songwriter, and producer Rashad (born Rashad Morgan) fell in love with the Motown sound at an early age. Singing the Motown songbook at his elementary-school talent shows came first, then came the church choir, an active choir that would often leave its west-side base for public performances downtown. It was at one of these performances that Rashad was discovered by former New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe member Michael Bivins, who was launching his own label. A 14-year-old Rashad would make his debut as Ray Ray on the 1999 album Michael Bivins Presents the Adventures of the Biv 10 Pee-Wee All-Stars, but this thrown-together group of preteen singers and rappers failed to sell and dissolved a year later.

Now back in the real world, Rashad finished high school and went on to study music at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO. It was there he was granted access to a recording studio. Fascinated by the process of recording and producing music, Rashad spent most of his time in the studio and barely any in class. His grades proved it and a year later he was back in Detroit. From 2003 to 2005 he worked on a bunch of projects including a gig with the Big Ticket Music Group, owned by Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn. While most of these projects ended up being nothing more than learning experiences, a relationship with Detroit production duo Sicknotes became much more. They introduced Rashad to new management and released his independent album People Call Me Ray Ray in September of 2005. A copy landed in the hands of Grand Hustle Entertainment — home to Southern rap stars T.I. and Young Dro — and soon Rashad was in Atlanta, writing and recording his Grand Hustle/Atlantic Records debut. The first single, the smooth “Tell ‘Em What They Wanna Hear,” became a huge hit on Detroit radio when it was released in May of 2006. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide

Bringing you to speed, Rashad is still making moves with Grand Hustle. He is on the road for the summer hitting up Detroit, St. Louis, shooting a video for his upcoming single ‘Good Lovin’ in ATL and participating with Fox on Hip Hop For Hunger. Rashad took time out to speak with Radio One’s Online Editor in Detroit.

Rashad Morgan has recently aligned with Twisted Management, owned by Ian Easterling and Antonio (TwisT) Allen to return to the scene, writing and recording new music. Ian and Antonio has known Rashad since their high school days in Detroit, MI and has recently turned the friendship into a business relationship. During Rashad’s absence, he has spent time with his daughter, while reflecting on life and finding musical inspiration for his next album. With new management, Rashad has begun working on his next album.

Vince And Tamar Herbert Cover JET Magazine

January 13th, 2012 by thethirdprince

In the latest issue of “JET” Magazine, reality TV stars Vincent Herbert and Tamar Braxton open up about their strong marriage and friendship, their upcoming reality show and their plans to start a family.

Tamar Braxton and Vincent Herbert make for an interesting reality TV couple.  While she is loud and animated, he is quiet and calm.  And though she loves to be the center of attention, he likes to play the background (as evidenced by his super successful career as a low-key music executive.).  And in the latest issue of JET, the odd-couple discuss their love, their plans for Tamar’s album and if kids are in their future.

About their relationship, Vince says,

“We have fun, which is what a relationship is all about.  Tamar is the greatest. Like, we’d just drive to Disneyland, then go to the movies and fall asleep. Because we are friends and you can’t stress that enough in a relationship.  We have our arguments and disagreements, but that’s life.”

But the couple has had setbacks, most recently Vince’s health scare.  Tamar revealed,

“It was the first thing we ever had to deal with outside of the normal relationship thing. It went from dinner, to a doctor, to a hospital, to he’s in a coma.  I had to sign a lot of papers. I’m happy that we were friends because when you’re going through ‘what would he do?’ you remember those conversations. At first Doogie Howser was his doctor, and I was like no. I want someone with gray hair.”

Talking about Tamar’s upcoming album, they revealed that she is signed to her husband’s label and Interscope. Tamar says (in third person), “I have to do this.  I wake up in the morning and want to go to the studio, because if I don’t go, ‘her’ is going to be upset.”

Fans will also see the couple on their own show this season and they say it’s won’t impair their marriage.

“Let me tell you why reality TV marriages fail,” Tamar injected.  Because they’re being fake, and then when they see it on TV they argue.”

Can’t wait for the Tamar album and the couples new reality show set to air in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Detroit’s Justifiable Homicide Rate Increased in 2011

January 11th, 2012 by atrybula

DETROIT (WJBK) — Detroit Police will announce later this week the homicide numbers for 2011. They will be 344. That’s up from 308 in 2010, an increase of 36 bodies or 10 percent.

However, there is another category of homicide that is not in those numbers. This is called justifiable homicide. That’s when a citizen takes the life of another because he fears for his own life.

In 2010, Detroit reported 19 such homicides, almost 10 percent of the country’s total. Last year, it ballooned up to 34. That’s 15 bodies or an 80 percent increase. Citizens killing citizens because they’re afraid. What does this mean?

January 6th, 2012 by atrybula

From myFOXDetroit.com – A man was struck and killed by a U.S. Postal Service truck while walking across a Detroit freeway Friday morning.

Police say Dennis Caver, 55, may have suffered a medical emergency that led him to crash his car into the barrier along westbound I-96 near the Warren exit. After exiting the vehicle, police say Caver was walking across the freeway when he was struck by the postal vehicle.

Caver’s family tells FOX 2′s Al Allen he suffered from diabetes.

Ed Moore, a postal spokesman, says the driver was extremely shaken and distraught after the accident.

The crash comes a day after an off-duty firefighter who was apparently changing a tire was struck and killed on westbound I-696 in Farmington Hills.
